![]() I’m still finding my way with it but I’m pleased. They give you the range of the instrument you’ve loaded in, as well as things like key switch lights. The lights over the keys are useful as well even though I thought they would just be a gimmick. ![]() East West, who produce Composer Cloud, have a piece of software to convert their libraries to NKS, the standard the NI use. Being able to preview/audition patches on all my libraries without having to load them each time is so useful. As a pianist it’s also really nice to play with it’s semi-weighted keys.Īlthough it’s geared towards NI software and libraries I’ve managed easily to import my Composer Cloud libraries into it, and that’s nearly 1TB of sounds (not that the sounds sit on the S61, they’re on an SSD ). It’s speeded you my workflow tremendously. I’ve recently picked up an S61 to use with Logic. TL DR: Between the features/software differences of the A49 and S49, is the S series keyboard/software really worth the extra $450? I dont have too many plugins other than the couple of synths that came with the Akai and the free stuff available all the time from NI. I know there's some differences there too. I know there's a difference in the keys thenselves, but Im sure even basic semi-weighted keys of the A49 would be a nice upgrade of the Akai. ![]() While not a must have (do have some knowledge of music theory and whatnot), just seems like a really convenient song writing featue. One of the biggest features I really like on the S49 is lighted scales and whatnot. That being said, I know theres going to be some physical differences/upgrades between the A49 and S49 controllers. I use Reaper as my DAW (don't plan changing that). Im looking to move the Akai to more of a dedicated drum controller unit and expand on a more capable (especially in the octaves) keyboard. However, I've quickly started hitting the limitations of only having two octaves worth of keys at my disposal. Its been an awesome tool to easily add purcussion, synth, plugin control etc. About a year ago I wanted to get into a midi controller and added an Akai MPK Mini to my recording gear setup.
